Final Reflection

To start with one memorable moment would have to be the first day of class and walking in to find that all of my peers are seniors while I was a junior. I feel like this impacted my learning because their presence, to me, was of those who where more skilled and talented photographers and gave me a boost to try harder, take more interesting images and to show the seniors that I, a junior, could stand on the podium with them in the winning circle.

My other highlight was not one specific moment in the class but something that reoccured over and over in the class. And that was having the choice to create what I wanted to create the way I wanted to. I feel like this greatly improved my learning experience because I was able to decide what I wanted to know and because of that I feel like I was more involved with what I was learning and was more interested in what I was learning then I would have been if I was being force fed the curriculum.

Finally, I also loved New York and how eye opening it was to me because I had only ever majorly traveled before but that was to Italy and it was so different from my past experiences that I couldn't help but to be in awe and amaze at all of the beautiful things there. However New York was different to me I entered without thinking of it as a fairytale like place like Italy or Spain. Once I got there however I realized how much of a fairytale place it truly was. I believe that this was a major eye opener because I never once imagined that I could be so infatuated with a place like New York. I mainly loved how wherever you looked there was always a million image possibilities because of how diverse the city and the people of the city were.

Movie Poster: "ECHO"

I love movies and I aways was interested in the posters that were related because those in charge of the poster are tasked with creating an interesting image that can portray the movie's theme, plot and setting all in one image. Plus a you need to express a pathos with title and catch phrase.

What I learned is that every little detail counts when you are making a movie poster. One thing that I didn't realize was going to be hard was the font choice for this poster because if you choose a frilly font for a horror movie it isn't going to work well. I was really lucky though with coming up with an idea, however as time progressed I noticed that the movie kept changing into the final product. I am really glad that I did this and really happy for this experience.

Vertical

Walking barefoot is so nice, you ever notice that? It feels so good, with the right weather of coarse. But the flowers, oh look at the Forget-me-nots they radiate, and infest, your gardens. So beautiful. I wonder what it's like to be a bunny, you know down close to the ground? I bet it's nice.

Stop Motion Final

I found some things to be easy and hard about creating stop motion. Some easy things that I noticed was once you got a good idea and good props scenes would just flow together. However I found it troubling the amount of images that are required for this, I knew that there was going to be a copious amount of images required for the movie but I didn't quit recognize how expansive the scenes that I was creating needed to be to add audio. It was because of this that I decide to create the 'old time' style of movie with the black and white images and text box panels.

Art Exhibit

One thing that I learned from being involved in the art exhibit is never pick a piece that others told you to choose, It's your show you should pick pieces that you like, but feel free to ask people for their opinions. One challenge that I faced was matting and framing my pictures, it wasn't that I found it impossible I just think it was difficult for me because there was a higher penalty if I did something wrong.

A Walk In the Woods

It's a beautiful out, I wander with no destination in mind. The sand surrounding the pond is cool, it feels good under my bare feet. Suddenly I find myself falling, sliding down a sleek slope of loose sand. I come to a sudden halt as I land inches away from the edge of the pond.

Self Portrait

To Be

To be or not to be,
such a heavy question

I find there are those,
that want to say no
but say yes

Then there are others,
ones that want say yes
but say no

To be or not to be,
I wish that one day
people want to say yes
and are able to say yes

Stop Motion Practice

I learned a lot from this simple practice, I discovered that it takes a good bit of patience for stop motion photography because as one photo lasts about 2-4 seconds that means that you would need over 1,000 photos to make it close to half-a-second. This can be difficult but I find it very rewarding when you toil over the images and be able to create these quirky little videos.

Cinematography Vs. Stop Motion Photography

Cinematography, basically, is the art of creating a motion picture. It is a type of media that can portray many different type of stories. Cinematographers have to use their knowledge of camera angles, lighting exposure, if in color then saturation and if in black and white the contrast. It is with all these tools that a cinematographer can tell a story, or express a pathos to the viewer.

Stop motion photography is a similar form to cinematography, while stop motion is not continuously being filmed it can be used to tell a story on it's own. What stop motion is is when a photographer takes an image of an inanimate object and moves it in tiny increments. This is so that when all the images are put together and played together it gives off the illusion of movement. Sometimes this process is used on animate objects as well as inanimate. One thing cinematographers and stop motion photographers do have in common is that they need to control the exposure, camera angles, lighting, contrast and saturation of the images.

Stop Motion

What is stop motion? Stop motion is a cinematic technique where the camera repeatedly takes images every image slightly different each time, sometimes used to give inanimate objects the illusion of lifelike movement.

What I want to learn is some basics of stop motion, how it works and what needs to be done to create basic videos of stop motion. With this I want to be able to also work on taking a stop motion scene and be able to photoshop elements in as well as actually use physical elements in the scenes.

Grandma Chìc

I'm in the corner of the parlor of my grandparents house, well now my grandmothers house. I stare in amazement at all the people that he knew. It makes me fell small in comparison to the legacy that he left behind. Who knew that he had touched so many people. I looked at the globe that I've always been interested in, thinking, I might get it sooner then I had hoped.

New York

The Highlights of this trip for me would probably have to be just going in general because New York is just such a beautiful place over all, however if I had to choose specifically I would have to say going to Brooklyn and getting to walk across the bridge as well as getting to visit the 9/11 memorial. Of all the things that I would like to remember I would say that the photo exhibit in the International Center for Photography asking 'what is photography'? That exhibit really changed the way that I think of photography. I believe that in this trip I learned many things, one being taking pictures using manual settings faster so it doesn't take to long to take an image. Another thing that I learned is that it's good to take a load of images, save them and then later go through them because some images that on your camera you thought looked good could have been worse then it appeared and vise versa, bad images coming out good.

Color

The days are dark, it's been weeks since I last payed the electric bills. the lamp that I stand by emits it's weak yellow light across the small room. Blackness engrosses the rest of the room, the light is flickering now almost gone. I can hear them now, they are getting closer and closer as the light slowly dies. And so will I.

Warmth

The storm rages outside, the power is still out but the sun is coming up. My hand crawls against the textured surface of the arm of the chair with the lid of the candle in hand. I place the lid on the candle, oblivious of the fact that I hadn't blown out the candle

Light Painting

Upon completion of this project I learned more about shutter speed and how I can utilize that to help me improve my images. I also learned the difference between 'light painting' and a bad image of light. Another thing that I learned was different techniques that I can use to get new ideas for my images and make myself more creative.

Goals

For my goals I would like to advance my knowledge of digital photography. I would like to greatly differ my subject matter. I would also like to continue working with photoshop to be able to create images that would sometimes not be taken naturally, and to work on my general knowledge of photography and learn new ways to manipulate images with the techniques that I already know. I am also interested with looking into videography and how that works because I've never tried something like that. A little interest of mine with photoshop also is to look into the creation of gif's or the editing videos with photoshop as well.
